The 2 Live Stews: Doug (L) and Ryan (R) Stewart
Why was Super Bowl XLIII so Stew-pendous? Was it the incredible touchdowns by Cardinals’ Larry Fitzgerald (#11) and Steelers’ James Harrison (#92) as well as Santonio Holmes (#52)? Perhaps it was Jennifer Hudson’s incredible rendition of the “National Anthem” along with “The Boss” (Bruce Springsteen’s) halftime show? What about the eTrade and Cash4Gold commercials featuring Ed McMahon and M.C. Hammer?
One thing’s for sho; the Stewper Bowl at Luckie’s Food Lounge, courtesy of brothers Doug and Ryan Stewart, held the crown for game time festivities in Atlanta.

“The 2 Live Stews,” 790 the Zone’s award-winning radio personalities, created the ultimate virtual experience. The day was dedicated to quality, high-definition football. Konsole Kingz brought out Madden ’09 and XBOX360s on three large monitors for the pre-game “Gamer’s Hideout.” The remaining 27 plasmas surrounding the booths and the bar areas, equipped with full-fledged surround sound and state-of-the-art lighting, gave all spectators their own personal view of the pigskin. For every field goal made, State Farm Insurance awarded some lucky fan with $25 ($50 if it was a touchdown).
Ryan Stewart, a five year veteran with the Detroit Lions, knows the spirit of the game. With this being the first Stewper Bowl event, Stewart believes the event was a stew-pendous opportunity to create a good time. “The entire event has been a blessing,” he says with excitement after enjoying the game with his family and friends. “This was an incredible game with an incredible crowd. It was our first event, and the place was packed out and sold out. That’s just how it’s goin’ down.”
From the beginning, Luckie’s was packed with everyone from die hard sports fanatics sportin’ their team’s colors to a few famous faces. Special guests in attendance included designer Mychael Knight, artist BoneCrusher, artist Q. Parker, actress Kaira Akita, Somebodies star/creator Hadjii, vocalist Fantasia, and Chilli (of TLC). Athletes on hand were AND1’s Hot Sauce and Spyda, Buffalo Bills’ Bryan Scott, retired tackle Bob Whitfield, Atlanta Falcons’ Chuck Smith, Doug Chapman, and Ray Edwards (both from the Minnesota Vikings).
Everything went down smooth. The brothers ushered in Crown Royal to provide the evening’s purple carpet and kickoff toast. Along with Crown Royal and State Farm, the event was sponsored by Verizon Wireless and Coors Light. Complimentary tickets were given out in exchange for a Crown Royal-based cocktail, a Coors Light, or Blue Moon.
Partygoers yelled, screamed, catcalled, cheered, jeered, and talked trash the entire game. It was all in love mainly when those three extraordinary touchdown passes caught everyone’s attention in the midst of the numerous buffalo wings, French fries, sushi, jumbo shrimp, and nacho platters. On behalf of Blue Corset, numerous models were on hand to strut their stuff in Crown Couture’s signature lingerie. As satin white trimmed in black lace turned into teal sets and lavender bustiers, the petite models entertained the crowd during the halftime show.

Stew-rangely enough, The Steelers’ 27-23 win over the Cardinals was not only a momentous occasion for Mike Tomlin, the youngest coach to ever win a Super Bowl, and the gang. For Stewart, the inaugural event was a night to remember. “It was a good crowd with no drama and everyone enjoying themselves,” he says after the event. “This was a good game. A lot of Super Bowls in the past hadn’t been good, but the past few years have been good games. We just hope to continue to move on.”
All proceeds from the evening went towards the brothers’ Stewart Family Foundation. Post-game attendees at Luckie’s were treated to an after party with music provided by DJ Don Cannon. Subsequent events ‘round town for the game were also held at Justin’s, 300 Atlanta, and the Velvet Room.
